WHAT IS MUN
A collection of multiple students across all grades of the student body and teachers dedicated to youth advocacy, RHSMUN offers its members a unique experience in competitive debate that allows its participants to connect and collaborate with delegates across the state. With its foundation in 2015, RHSMUN looks to provide all members, no matter interests or pursuits, with the ability to apply activism and international work to their daily lives.
"The world, as it always has, is in need of change; it is in need of the principles of civic duty and political engagement, where the execution of which merits surreal blends of values and beliefs. This reform is critical in guiding the development of an increasingly connected world, and as such, Reedy HS Model United Nations works to equip youth with the capacity to act on issues that matter most.  In providing opportunities for Reedy students to develop both their presentation skills and passion for governmental procedures, this program aids participants in realizing their inherent ability to create change through governmental action and advocacy. Indeed, visions of more publicly engaged constituencies become more and more clear; the hopes of Thomas Jefferson, of 'an educated electorate,' have culminated into a movement spurred by the potential of a younger generation. We have the ability, but require action, to set change in motion."
Much of the work associated with competition is both minimal and short, but preparation for conferences require an understanding of research, speeches, and format of debate. Because of this, RHSMUN meets weekly on Wednesdays during advisory with Ms. Summerlin in order to cover the information needed to succeed at conference. Stop by anytime if you have any questions about the curriculum or experience you would receive in MUN!
